About Department
•     The Department came into existence along with the establishment of College in 1994. The main aim the department is to carry out study/research in Kannada literature, linguistics and related areas. The Department’s mandate is to work on the way Kannada Language is historically changing and intervene in the process of change in it’s usage and structure. The Department has carried out several projects to this effect till today and has published many of it’s out comes. The Department library has 300 above books in kannada which are available for reference.
•        The objectives of the Department includes undertaking original research in Kannada Language, literature, culture and society incorporating Innovative study/research approaches and imparting training to students to enable them to make use the knowledge of the subject not only to make a career for them but also serve the Society. The Department also strives to develop methods focusing on promotion of Kannada studies. 

VISION
 To build will power to en-noble language, literature and culture through education and to involve  students in Nation building

MISSION
•    To create a grammar of Kannada based on the current usages of Kannada free of Sanskrit and English Grammar Models. 
•    To promote multidisciplinary study in Kannada on culture, society, economy, and polity.
•    To establish academic and community linkage to take the knowledge to society and to bring back the knowledge underlining their practice.

 OBJECTVIES
•    Introducing History of Kannada Literature.

•    Teaching writing skill.

•    Art of speaking.

•    Imparting about  Literature  and Culture.

•     Awakening About the life and achievement of    Local Literary geniuses.

*     Encourage  the students to pass in Competitive Exams

 

MAJOR CONTRIBUTION OF THE DEPARTMENT
•    Identification, documentation and analysis of the regional and dialects of Kannada.
•    Extending, revising and reconstruction the knowledge of the structure of Kannada language and it’s social dynamics.
•    Identifying problems of using Kannada in various domains such as Administration, Mass Communication, Education and also Day to day activities to suggest remedies.
•    Retrieving linguistic material from traditional knowledge and transform it as a resource for further study.
•    Creating a Forum for discussion on resent trends in Kannada language, literature and linguistics.

    The Mother tongue of the majority of the students in Kannada.

    No of students are coming from below poverty line & Rural areas. 

OPPORTUNITIES
    Students are involving in co-curricular activities.
    In Competitive exam for the past 5-6 Years most of the successful candidates are from Optional Kannada Students. 

CHALLENGES
    Inspiring the students to develop the attitude of composing poems, writing short stories, articles, etc.
