NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a voluntary scheme started by the Government of India in 1969 through the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It primarily seeks to enable college students to contribute in community work, social welfare, and nation-building activities, so that they may grow in committing towards social responsibility, leadership, and teamwork.

Significance of NSS:

The integration of social service programs and academic studies is meant to be facilitated for students. This assists in the development of the personality of its participants, inculcating values of selfless service and loving one's fellow beings. Several activities, such as blood donation notifications, cleanliness drives, environmental awareness programs, and rural development activities, are undertaken in the NSS for mobilizing student efforts toward a larger social development cause.

Activities and Benefits:

NSS volunteers take part in community service, relief work in disasters, health and hygiene awareness programs, and literacy campaigns. There are also special camps where activities related to rural development and social transformation are conducted. Certificates received from NSS have additional value to the student's career as many colleges and companies consider it a great additional achievement.
OBJECTIVES OF NSS
•    To give students hands-on experience in community service.
•    To cultivate student's personality.
•    To increase the social conscience in the studentsand offer them with opportunities to engage with people in villages and slums.
